In the HMEPS 2026 Trustee Special Election, ten candidates ran for election for Trustee Position 5, an active employee trustee position.
The election closed on February 23, 2026, and no candidate received a majority of votes. Under the rules governing trustee elections for HMEPS, if no candidate receives a majority (over 50%) of the total votes cast in the race, the Board declares a runoff election. At the February 26, 2026 meeting, the Board of Trustees declared a runoff election between the two candidates who received the highest and second highest numbers of votes, which are Tameka Hardison and M. Arif Rasheed.
Voting instructions for the runoff election for Position 5 will be mailed to eligible voters the week of March 9, 2026. The voting deadline is March 30, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. (Central).
